Acamprosate (Campral) may be prescribed to people who have had problems with alcohol dependency to help reduce the risk of drinking again. Some people who take this medication may not receive the full benefit because they do not take the medication regularly or for long enough. This research aims to help support people to take Acamprosate as it is prescribed using medication management techniques and personal achievement awards.

To find out whether these are effective at helping people take Acamprosate as prescribed, we want to compare the experiences of people getting the usual support for taking their Acamprosate with those receiving additional medication management. We also want to compare those getting usual support with those receiving medication management plus a personal achievement award. We want to know if taking Acamprosate as prescribed will help people stay away from alcohol.

Who can be involved?

  • Adults over 18 years of age
  • Who have a diagnosis of alcohol dependence but who are currently alcohol abstinent
  • Prescribed Acamprosate by treating clinician
