CAP-MEM is a study that is aiming to understand more about if the autonomic nervous system works differently in people that have mental health, neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. The autonomic nervous system regulates the way that our heart, lungs and digestive system work. If these systems are not working in the usual way, the blood supply to the brain can be slightly different. This change may be enough to affect memory and concentration.

This study is also hoping to recruit those that do not have a diagnosis of mental health, neurodevelopmental or neurodegenerative disorders to compare memory results with people that do have these diagnoses.

Who can be involved?

  • A person that has a mental health, neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorder(s)
  • A person that does not have any mental health problems or any neurodevelopmental/neurodegenerative disorders

What happens to people taking part in this research?

If you choose to take part in this study, it will involve the completion of 3 questionnaires. You will also be offered the choice in taking part in tests of memory and concentration. These tests are completed on a computer and will be done with a member of the research team.
