We know that in the weeks around the time of birth, women are at a higher risk of experiencing major mental health difficulties than at any other time in their lives. The importance of supporting women experiencing mental health difficulties at this time is well known. However, there is little research to guide the NHS on which type of service is most effective in improving symptoms and meeting the needs of the woman and her family.
