The Heart of Solent Awards

Yesterday was the annual Heart of Solent Awards, an afternoon celebration and award ceremony for staff and partners working with Solent NHS Trust. Solent Academy had a number of categories in the awards – and we’d also nominated a number of people across the range of categories. It was an uplifting and emotional afternoon, and a successful one for Research & Improvement across the Solent patch.

The Research Award (shortlist below) was won by Maria Bungaroo, for her work championing research in care homes. Maria owns and runs two homes in Portsmouth and has worked alongside us in making research accessible for residents and families, successfully delivering a number of large trials.

The People Participation Award was won by the lovely Aishea Buckle, the participation lead for our children’s services. Aisha works closely with us on involving young people in improvement projects and strengthening their voice.

Also with us on the day were Louise Wilders and Sarah Baker from the HIVE, Portsmouth who were shortlisted for their phenomenal support of the vaccine programme, recruiting and deploying hundreds of volunteers at short notice. Yerin Cha and Mel Tipple were also shortlisted in the Unsung Hero Category for their work with volunteers over the last eighteen months.

And last, but by no means least, our very own Participation Lead, Carl Adams, won the Excellence Award for his boundless energy in ensuring personalised care and patient voice – both in their own care but also in the improvement of services. He has inclusion as part of his very being, is endlessly helpful and makes everything a lot of fun (look out for him on TikTok, his latest discovery).

We were so delighted to be an integral part of the Awards this year, and for some of our Side By Side members to be part of the judging and award panel. Roger Stevens and Mary Ramsay were a big part of the day, and we’re very grateful for their time and expertise.
